The Story of the LBM (Little Black Maillot)

Once upon a time, the Gods of Swimwear declared that women should have a classic but modern swimwear wardrobe staple that would always ensure they could look stylish and chic – no matter the occasion. And so, the LBM was born.
Here at Splish Splash Swimwear we are strong believers that every swimwear wardrobe should have one (or four!) maillots that can be relied upon in the event of any swimming occasion. Black suits, in particular, provide a chic and sophisticated look whilst exuding an understated sense of sexiness.

This seasons crop of LBMs include cut outs, asymmetrical designs, mesh, lace and ties. There are suits to lengthen, suits to hide, suits to support and suits that do it all. We are featuring some of our best sellers on the Blog this week, as worn by our amazing models, Laura (long dark hair), Simone blonde and curly), Eilis (short cropped) and Maddie (long and blonde).

Laura is wearing the Jets D/DD Cup Maillot, this suit is perfect for the larger bust and features a plunging neck line, removable cups, underwires, sheer mesh panel inserts, powermesh bust support and adjustable straps. The plunging neck line and mesh detailing keep this suit modern and fresh whilst providing a flattering cut that draws the eyes away from the hips and tummy – perfect if you are trying to deflect attention from these areas.

Simone is wearing the Seafolly Multi Strap High Neck Maillot. This suit features multi strap detailing to the sides, zip back and a shelf bra with removable quick dry cups. This suit offers a modern twist on the active suit with the cut-out detailing to the sides creating an hourglass silhouette, perfect if you want to add shape. The high neck line offers a lot of coverage and support to the bust making it a great option if you also want to be able stay active in your swimwear.

Eilis is wearing one of this season’s biggest sellers – this stunning suit is the Sunseeker Elastic High Neck Maillot. With the elastic mesh trim detailing offering a brand new neck line and good bust coverage (so good that it works for A-D cup sizes), it also features soft cups and a high scoop back. This suit is supportive whilst still being modern and sexy. The neck line and mesh trim detailing draws the eye upwards making this suit perfect for anyone trying to minimise their tummy, hips or bum. This suit has literally been flying off the shelves as so many of you have discovered its allure.

Maddie wears the Seafolly One Shoulder Maillot. This suit features shelf bra with removable quick dry cups, asymmetrical neck line and cut out side. Its the perfect hybrid between a one piece and a bikini – there is a cheeky cut out but still good coverage to the stomach and waist. The cut-out detailing and asymmetric neck line adds shape and curves to your figure whilst keeping your bust well supported.

And don’t forget, your LBM isn’t just for the beach or pool side. These suits are perfect for wearing as a body suit and matching with a flowing maxi, your best jeans or this seasons hot new trend – the cropped culotte. Proving that a black maillot can be worn all year round, making it the perfect investment piece for your swimwear wardrobe.

And so we bow down to the Gods of Swimwear for giving us the LBM. Long may we rock it!
